Vijayalakshmi Deshmane is among the nine national Vice Presidents of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). Previously she has served the organization in different roles, including the President for VHP’s Karnataka region in 2017. She was the first woman to hold the President’s position in VHP.

Deshmane is among India’s eminent oncologists and served as the Vice President of the Karnataka Cancer Society.

In December  20220, she was appointed as the vice president of Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust’s Karnataka chapter of Sri Ram Mandir Nirman Nidhi Samarpan Abhiyan Committee.

(VHP was designated as a militant religious organization by the World Factbook of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in 2018. VHP is an affiliate of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a far-right Hindu nationalist organization formed in 1925 along the lines of hardline nationalist groups in Europe, which aims to create an ethnic Hindu-majority state in India. For decades, VHP has campaigned to turn India into a Hindu nation and stands accused of orchestrating numerous attacks on Muslims and Christians in hundreds of riots in various parts of the country.)
