Dr. Uday Dhuri is the spokesperson of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), the sister organization of the Hindu militant group Sanatan Sanstha. He is the former Mumbai District Coordinator of the group. HJS members are accused of assassinating anti-superstition activist Narendra Dabholkar in 2013.
Dhrui was one of the main person behind organizing the 2017 Hindutva conclave in Goa to draw up a programme to establish a ‘Hindu Rashtra’ in India by 2023.
He also leads the propaganda wing of HJS and promotes conspiracy theories like love jihad and religious conversions with the sole aim of targeting Muslims and Christians.
In July 2021, he called for opposing the proposal to rechristen a municipal garden in Mumbai’s Govandi after Tipu Sultan, the king of Mysore and instead called for naming it after a Hindu king.
“Today, they are naming a garden after Tipu Sultan, tomorrow some monument may be rechristened after some cruel Mughal king who destroyed our country. The decision will hurt the sentiments of Hindus. The garden should be named after our great kings like Shivaji Maharaj who treated all religions equally,” he told The Indian Express.
