Ashok Pandey is a Hindu militant and the national spokesman of the All India Hindu Mahasabha, a Hindu nationalist group. He is a known minority hater and often delivers communal speeches. He has landed herself in jail a few times for making extremely communal remarks.
On January 30, 2019, Pandey and his wife Pooja Pandey held a function at Aligarh where Nathuram Godse’s statue was garlanded, and sweets were distributed. Godse was also a Hindu Mahasabha member who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi.
Pandey’s wife Poonam also staged the assassination of Gandhi and said it would henceforth be held every year like the burning of the demon king Ravana’s effigy during Dusshera.
“We have trained our children to kill anyone who challenges the unity of our motherland… Our children will not be as naive as us, they will kill many more before they get killed,” he told The Print.
In September 2020, Pandey, in a TV interview, called Aligarh Muslim University founder Sir Syed Ahmad Khan a ‘traitor’ and the university “an institution being a classroom of terrorists.”
Pandey had also announced an award for Ram Bhakt Gopal Sharma, a Hindu militant who attacked Jamia Millia Islamia University students during the anti-citizenship bill protests on January 30, 2020.
“If it is proved that he was indeed inspired and he in his own free will has wielded a weapon to show the right path to society, against movements like Shaheen Bagh, then Hindu Mahasabha will absolutely honour him,” Pandey told The Logical Indian.
