Chandan Sharma is a far-right social media influencer and political commentator who promotes Hindu nationalist ideology and anti-Muslim rhetoric. Based in New Delhi, Sharma uses his Twitter account (@ChandanSharmaG) and YouTube channel to spread divisive narratives, often fueling misinformation and endorsing acts of violence.

On his YouTube channel, Sharma focuses on polarizing themes, such as critiques of secularism, perceived threats to Hindu culture, and attacks on minority communities. His Twitter account amplifies similar ideas, aligning with Hindutva’s ideological framework.

In November 2024, Sharma publicly supported the reopening of an “ancient temple” in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, which had been closed since 1978. This event followed a court-ordered survey of the Mughal-era Shahi Jama Masjid, based on claims that it was built over a Hindu temple. The survey sparked violent clashes, resulting in four deaths. Sharma’s rhetoric surrounding this issue underscored his role in promoting hate speech and deepening polarization.

Sharma’s recent tweets included a video from Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, where he mocked Muslims as “electricity thieves” and used derogatory Hindi slurs to refer to them. He accused the Muslim-majority neighborhood of obstructing efforts to install electricity meters, framing it as evidence of their supposed opposition to national progress. Sharma claimed that such areas (Muslim areas) “cause trouble for the government and administration” and called for harsh measures to “bring them (Muslims) to their senses.”

In another tweet, Sharma mocked Indian Muslims by calling them “the children of Babar and Aurangzeb.” He accused them of cowardice in the face of violence from Hindutva supporters, portraying them as impoverished and dependent. Sharma dehumanized Muslims by using stereotypes, describing their livelihoods as “begging” and “repairing punctures.” While he claimed to advocate for peace, Sharma implied that Muslims’ alleged alignment with Islamic nations made them untrustworthy and hostile to India.

Sharma celebrated the release of Daksh Chaudhary, a member of the Hindu Raksha Dal involved in a violent attack on scrap collectors, falsely accused of being illegal Bangladeshi or Rohingya immigrants. Sharma hailed Chaudhary as a “lion” and expressed excitement for the release of other Hindutva figures, including Monu Manesar, known for his role in vigilante violence. His tweet openly supported communal aggression, glorifying individuals implicated in hate crimes.

Sharma also shared an old video, claiming it showed Muslims forcibly converting a monk to Islam in Bangladesh. The video was misleadingly presented as an NGO helping a mentally challenged man by cleaning him and cutting his hair. Despite this, Sharma misrepresented the situation, framing it as part of a larger campaign of Hindu oppression in Bangladesh. His tweet, which garnered over 936 retweets and hundreds of comments, spread confusion, with many users believing it to be true, furthering Sharma’s agenda of portraying Muslims as threats to Hindus.

In a YouTube video titled  Shraddha Murder Case || Delhi Murder Case || Shraddha Aftab Story || Love Jihad, Sharma falsely claimed that members of the Muslim community were celebrating and supporting Aftab Poonawala, the accused murderer of Shraddha Walkar. He framed the tragic case as an example of “love jihad,” a baseless theory that asserts Muslim men are waging a religious war by luring Hindu women into relationships and converting them.

Sharma’s Linkedin outlines his mission for a “Hindu Rashtra” driven by strategic political analysis and activism. He openly discusses his efforts to strategize and mobilize campaigns that resonate with Hindutva supporters. His content critiques secularism, portrays Muslims as threats, and promotes narratives that seek to consolidate Hindu majoritarianism.

While Sharma has gained traction among Hindutva supporters, his content remains a dangerous tool for spreading misinformation and fueling communal hatred against the Muslim community.
