Deepak Chaurasia is a journalist and news anchor. He is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication and a Chevening scholar and has worked with News Nation, Aaj Tak, ABP News, and India News for nearly three-decade of his career.
Chaurasia was dismissed from the News Nation, where he anchored the primetime show, ‘Desh Ki Bahas’ when he appeared on the show in an inebriated state. While presenting a programme about the death of an army general, Chaurasia struggled to complete his sentence and even addressed the late Chief of Defence Staff as a journalist. Chaurasia looked deeply uncomfortable during the broadcast and was taken off air in the middle of the show.
In January 2023 he joined Zee news as a consulting editor and news anchor where he continues to spread hatred and anti-Muslim propaganda.
Chaurasia is among the champions of obsequious journalism in India. He is the mouthpiece of the ruling Hindu nationalist regime of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He routinely propagates anti-Muslim hatred and propaganda. Chaurasia’s primetime show, ‘desh ki bahas’ at news nation, was nothing but a full-on display of hate-mongering and Islamophobia.
Few titles from his show ‘desh ki bahas’
‘Does all of India belong to Hindu ancestors’?
‘They will provoke in the name of Islam’!
‘How the Hindu population is reducing in India’!
‘Is earnings on ‘Halal’ ( food permissible for Muslims in Islam) a threat to national security’?
‘When will the action be taken against the traitors’?
‘Who is afraid of the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) and Durga puja( Hindu Festival)’?
‘Strict Law on Love jihad, the need of the hour’!
(Love jihad is an anti-Muslim conspiracy theory)
‘How long will the (H) daughters bear the terror of love jihad’?
‘Jihadi factory(referring to madarsa) ka poora sach’!
As is evident from the titles, Chaurasia conducts his prime-time show on the bandwagon of anti-Muslim hate, Islamophobia, Hindu nationalism and Hindu extremist propaganda. He invites Hindu fanatics on his shows who openly demonize Muslims and actively call for violence.
Panelists on his shows have pitched for a ban on the Quran saying it is ‘school of terrorism.’ He has gleefully allowed disparaging statements like calling Muslims and Dalits ‘traitors.”
After the brief hiatus post the controversy of drunken anchoring, he has made a comeback on Zee News where he anchors a prime-time show called ‘Taal Thok Ke’.
Few titles from his show ‘taal thok kay’
‘Pakistan relies on Allah, the army and America!’
‘Documentary (referring to the BBC documentary on Modi) or a toolkit to defame?’
“Hindus will divide only then they(opposition parties) will get votes?”
Chaurasia has been indicted for spreading fake news by a Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) court, in Gurugram, about a case of 2013. The court issued a warrant for his arrest on February 4, 2023. This was the second time in more than three months that the court had issued a warrant. The first Non-bailable warrant was issued on October 28.
According to a news laundry report, the case pertains to an FIR based on a complaint filed by a child’s relative on December 15, 2013. It accused three news channels – News24, India News and News Nation – of airing “morphed” videos. Former News24 managing editor Ajit Anjum, Aaj Tak anchor Chitra Tripathi, and former News Nation anchor Deepak Chaurasia are among eight people charge-sheeted in 2020 and 2021 for airing “edited,” “obscene” videos of a 10-year-old child and her family, and linking the video to the sexual assault case against self-styled godman Asaram Bapu. Arguments on charges are being heard.
He regularly peddles communal hatred and Islamophobia on social media. His Twitter account is overwhelmingly filled with anti-Muslim propaganda and hatred. Bogus conspiracy theories like ‘love jihad’ and ‘conversion jihad’ are among his favorite topics.
