Ishwar Lal is a full-time worker of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Jodhpur district chief of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), a Hindu militant group.

Lal is well known for his hate-mongering and anti-Muslim propaganda. He attends rallies and events regularly and makes inflammatory speeches replete with disinformation, hate, and calls for violence.

He regularly implores Hindus to bear weapons and boycott ‘Halal’ products to inflict an ‘economic boycott’ on the Muslim community.

At a rally in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, on December 3, 2022, he delivered a hate speech filled with fear-mongering, misinformation, and war cries.

He reportedly raised familiar bogeys of ‘Love Jihad’ and spread disinformation that Muslims brought untouchability to India and that with the rising population, Muslims will take over temples from Hindus in the coming decades.

In his speech, he expressed his entrenched hatred for Muslims. He asked Hindus to abhor the community and said: “Ever since we have been singing Gandhi’s song ‘Ishwar Allah Tero Naam, Sabko sanmati de Bhagwan’ we have been in trouble. We sing this song from our temples but they don’t sing it from their mosques. Hindus are not allowed to go to Mecca for Hajj. Hindus pray to the Cow, they eat the cow. We (Hindus) give rotis to the cow, they eat the cow with rotis. Did you see how many pieces they cut Shraddha into?”

While demonizing Muslims, he suggested that keeping weapons is a must for Hindus.

“Even during his exile, Ram had not given up his weapons. We pray to the weapons (shastra-pooja) but don’t have any at home. Each hindu home should have weapons. People ask what purpose will this ‘trishul’ solve, give us pistols. I say when there will be fighting, pistols will be of no use, but even a stick will be useful. If he were armed, the tailor Kanhiaya(referring to the 2022 beheading incident in Udaipur allegedly over posting content blasphemous on Prophet Mohammad) would not have died. We have a TV and fridge, our children have scooters, bikes but no weapons to defend themselves. On the other hand ‘they’ have collected stones on their rooftops so that “their’ small girls can hit and kill at least one Hindu. But we don’t have any weapons in our house,” he said.

He said Muslims are “terrorists” and receive foreign funding to transform India into “an Islamic state” and asked Hindus to stay united.

In January 2023, he delivered another hate speech at a Trishul Diksha event in Lohawat, Rajasthan, where he blatantly dehumanized Muslims, misinterpreted history, and mocked Islamic traditions.

Excerpts from the speech

“Ghar mei kutta ata hai, billi ghuss jaati hai. Aur kayi ghar mei toh Muslim aur Isaiyon ko laa laakar tum bithate ho. The one who goes to the temple, the one who kills the cow. Gaeka eats meat. (We allow dogs and cats inside our house. And in many homes, you all allow Muslims and Christians. The ones who broke our temples. The one who kills our cows. The one who eats cows.)”

“Bharat ke andar Halal khareedte ho. Do not eat any cheese written as Halal. Otherwise, who gets the money from us? Muslims get it. What is the name of the organization that wants to stop us? Bajrang Dal. (You buy Halal products. Never buy products that are ‘Halal.’ Who gets that money? It goes to Muslims. What’s the name of the organization that stops this? Bajrang Dal.)”

“Jansankhya niyantran ka anon lagu karna padega. Nahi toh yeh phir mandir tut jaenge. What is the name of the Sangathan that people do not play? Bajrang Dal. (Population control bill has to be enacted. Otherwise, the temples will again be destroyed. The organization that will help enact the Population Control law is Bajrang Dal.)”
