Kailash Vijayvargiya is a loudmouthed hardcore Hindu far-right leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He is a seasoned politician and has been a Member of the Madhya Pradesh legislative Assembly and state cabinet minister multiple times.

He has been the face of BJP’s aggressive Hindu nationalism and has been stationed in West Bengal to prepare the ground for Hindu nationalist politics there. Although after Modi came to power, he has been somewhat sidelined, yet he misses no opportunity to register his anti-Muslim and Hindu supremacist convictions.

When minorities in India were opposing the discriminatory Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Vijayvargiya was organizing rallies and marches in support of the CAA. Critics fear that the Act, combined with the National Register of Citizens (NRC), seeks to disenfranchise Muslims in India. In one such rally in Kolkata, he was taken into custody by the police for disturbing the peace in the area.

He has questioned the integrity of Madrasas (Islamic institutes of religious learning). He praised the government’s interference in Muslim religious institutions.

Vijayvargiya once compared Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan with mafia gangster Dawood Ibrahim. He said, “If Dawood Ibrahim comes on the street, there would be a crowd to see him…you can’t gauge the popularity on the basis of crowd, I will not comment further… people have understood what it means.”

During the Local elections in Delhi, he said, “It is due to the policy of the Congress party and the Aam Aadmi party that small-scale ‘ward Pakistan'( referring to constituencies with considerable Muslim population) have sprung up in Delhi. We have to stay united and destroy these  Pakistans.”

He has stood in support of hate-mongering Hindu Monks who call for the killings of Muslims. Vijayvargiya spoke in support of Kalicharan Maharaj, who was arrested for making inflammatory speeches against minority communities and praising the terrorist who killed Mahatma Gandhi.

Similarly, he came forward defending Dhirendra Shastri, aka Bageshwar Baba, the superstitious hate-mongering Hindu Monk, saying that he is a divine incarnation and must be respected. He said,” I believe in their powers, there are many such personalities among Hindu saints who bear supernatural powers.”

Vijayvargiya is also a misogynist.  He believes ” women are raped because they cross the line. Sita was abducted by Ravan because she crossed the boundary of her home”. In another instance, he said that the Bihar chief minister’s case is uncertain, like American women who frequently change boyfriends.
