Nand Kishore Gurjar is a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh from the Loni assembly constituency. He is associated with the Hindu supremacist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and is quite famous for his profound anti-muslim hatred.
He regularly makes hate speeches targeting the Muslim community and inciting Hindus to take up arms and commit violence to protect their religion and culture. He fights elections purely on communal lines dividing the electorate based on religion through Muslim-bashing and fear-mongering among Hindus in his political speeches and rallies.
After securing victory in the state assembly elections, he tweeted, “Neither Ali nor Bahubali, Bajrangbali has come to Loni….”
He has openly admitted to playing a crucial role in the February 2020 anti-Muslim pogrom in New Delhi.
“There were riots about CAA in Delhi. These “jihadis” started killing Hindus. That’s when you people let us in. We were accused of bringing in 2.5 lakh people into Delhi. We were trying to make them understand, but the police filed a case against us for killing “jihadis.” We will kill “Jihadis.” We will always kill them,” he said.
He comfortably refers to Muslims as ‘Jihadis’ in his public speeches.
He has problems with Muslim festivals, dietary habits, and educational institutions.
In 2020, during Eid ul Adha, also known as Bakra Eid, Gurjar said, “People who want to sacrifice (animals) on Eid should sacrifice their children.”
He forcibly shuts down meat shops owned mainly by Muslims every year during the Navratri festival of Hindus. He declared that whoever opened a meat shop near temples in Loni, UP, was committing ‘Rashtra droh’ (treason).
He resorted to misinformation that meat spread COVID-19 to impose a ban on the sale of meat in his constituency.
He regularly accuses Madrassas (traditional institutes of Islamic learning) of land encroachment and threatens to demolish them.
He mocked the lynching of Mohammad Akhlaq, who was murdered on camera by cow vigilantes in Dadri, Uttar Pradesh, in 2015 by referring to the victim as ‘pig’ and ‘jihadi.’
During the anti-farm law protests, he sent his goons to beat up protesting farmers to disrupt the peaceful protest. Consequently, he was boycotted and banned from entering his own constituency by the local panchayats (village assemblies).
His goons roam around in Loni, extorting money from businessmen and shopkeepers, many of whom have been arrested and booked. His son also roves around displaying fire weapons terrorizing and intimidating people.
In addition to being accused of beating government officials, Gurjar has a plethora of cases pending against him, including criminal intimidation (IPC Section-506), robbery (IPC Section-392), resistance or obstruction to lawful apprehension of another person (IPC Section-225), attempting to commit offenses punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonments (IPC Section-511), Injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class (IPC Section-295), mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy a house, etc. (IPC Section-436), voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty (IPC Section-332), rioting, armed with deadly weapons (IPC Section-148) and endangering life or personal safety of others (IPC Section-336) among others.
