Suraj Pal Amu is a senior Sangh Parivar leader and the current spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Haryana.

A Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh member since age 10, Amu hails from a Rajput family in Gurgaon’s Sohna town and is a law graduate, according to The Indian Express. During his days as a student, he was a member of the BJP’s student wing ABVP and served in it from 1984 to 1986. He graduated from Lucknow University and Maharshi Dayanand University.

He has served as the State Secretary, State Vice-President, and National Executive Member of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the BJP.

In 2019, he became Chairman of Karni Sena, a Hindu militant group. He also claims to be the head of Mahashya Bhim Singh Memorial Education Society and the working president of the All India Yog Sports Association.

Amu considers Prime Minister Narendra Modi as his inspiration. “I have been a BJP worker and for 25-26 years; I have learned to walk holding Modi ji’s finger,” he told a newspaper.

He shot into limelight in 2017 by announcing a reward for beheading actor Deepika Padukone over the controversy surrounding the film ‘Padmaavat.’

Amu, while validating the lynching of Asif Khan during a Mahapanchayat (mass gathering) on May 30, 2021, said: “Our boys are not guilty. They (Muslims) distort the pictures of our sisters and daughters. Shouldn’t we even murder them?”. Khan was killed by a group of Hindus in the Indian state of Haryana on May 16, 2021.

In another hate speech, he said, “They (Muslims) cut their moustaches, we can cut throats… We will pick them (Muslims) off one by one (chun chun ke thokenge),”

On July 5, 2021, Amu addressed another Mahapanchyat and said: “Agar Bharat hamaari maata hai, toh Pakistan ke hum baap hain, aur ye Pakistani… ko hum yahan ke gharon mein kiraye par makan nahin denge… In…ko is desh se nikaalo, yeh prastaav paas karo (If India is our mother, then we are the father of Pakistan, and we will not give houses here on rent to the Pakistanis… Remove them from this country, pass this proposal),” said Amu.

He also threatened actor Saif Ali Khan and his family for starting “love jihad” from Haryana’s Pataudi.

“Those who gave birth to Taimur, also belong to Pataudi. We know how to give respect… We want to say to Taimur’s mother (Kareena) that this is enough,” he said.

“This love jihad has been happening from the time of Sharmila Tagore, the seed was sown in Pataudi itself. People of Pataudi, only you will cut it. Stop welcoming them,” he added.

Some of his controversial statements:

“During 1947, the country was divided, we saw the bodies of 10 lakh people. There is no tally of those bodies till today. And we are giving them houses and shops. It has been found in Pataudi that their parks are being built. Uproot the stone of the park. Which one of the youngsters are ready to uproot the stone?”

“If you want to make history in the country, if you don’t want to become history, neither will Taimur be born, nor will Aurangzeb, Babur, or Humayun be born. We are 100 crore, and they 20 crore.”

In July 2021, Amu in a speech said that Muslims should be thrown out of the country: “If India is our mother, then we are the father of Pakistan, and we will not give houses here on rent to them. Remove them from this country, pass this proposal.”

“They (Muslims) cut their moustaches, we can cut throats… We will pick them (Muslims) off one by one (chun chun ke thokenge),” Amu added.
