Vijay Patel runs a propaganda portal known as Onlyfact.in, which serves as the disinformation factory against critics of Hindu nationalism and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.
Setups like Onlyfact delineates the irony within the Hindu nationalist ecosystem, which itself produces fake news in bulk and also provides ‘fact-checking’ facilities to further cement the falsehood by vindicating misinformations of blemishes by self-declaring them as facts. This is how misinformation and propaganda are wrapped as facts and injected into the national mainstream daily.
Patel’s debauchery and vicious game of peddling disinformation and falsehood has repeatedly caught the attention of fact-checking and news agencies. His black marketing of facts and figures doesn’t go unnoticed as news agencies like The Wire, Newslaundry, Altnews, etcetera have been keeping a close watch on his hateful campaign and regularly debunk the lies peddled by him.
Newslaundry has debunked in a report some of his blatant lies, through which he tried to malign the credibility of the former. He went to the extent of accusing the news platforms such as The News Minute, Newslaundry, and Quint of being funded by US-based financial groups and are engaged in a “propaganda war” against India. Notably, this is Patel’s signature modus operandi. He very conveniently switches to blame news agencies that refuse to bow down before the Hindu nationalist regime of the BJP and tags them as “anti-national and anti-Hindu conspirators.”
Enraged by the continuous vigil of Altnews, he branded Mohammed Zubair, co-founder of Altnews as a “slave of ISIS.” He urges Hindus to contribute financially to his so-called fact-checking agency, through which he continuously promotes anti-Muslim conspiracy theories and propaganda.
He often tweets made-up stories and reports to legitimize the hoax of Love Jihad and other conspiracy theories that aim to vilify the Muslim community and prepare the required premise to legitimize violence against them.
Patel’s Twitter feed is filled with feeds that attempt to weaponize fake news and misinformation against Muslims. Recently when Rana Ayyab, a journalist, addressed the United Nations wherein she highlighted the alarming situation of human rights violations in India, Patel tweeted, “Fraudster Rana Ayyub is sitting in the UN building and spreading hate against India.”
His agency overtly works for the ruling Hindu far-right Bhartiya Janata Party, evidenced by Onlyfact activities concerning the Adani scam involving money laundering, tax fraud, and import-export irregularities. Patel left no stone unturned in his attempt to prove the innocence of Gautam Adani, a close aide of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
