Yogi Devnath

Affiliation: Bharatiya Janata Party and Hindu Yuva Vahini
Vocation/ Title: Hindu Monk
Location: Gujarat, Kutch

Yogi Devnath is the head priest of Ekal Dham temple in Kutch, Gujarat. He claims to be the Gujarat state in charge of Yogi Adityanath’s Hindu militant group – Hindu Yuva Vahini. He is considered very close to Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, and is popularly known on social media as the ‘Yogi of Gujarat.’

He sought a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket from Kutch during the Gujarat assembly elections in 2007, 2012, 2017, and 2022 but failed.

Devnath, apparently a Hindu monk, is an agent of hate who continuously spews venom against Muslims.

He has more than one million followers on Twitter. He gathered this massive following initially by impersonating a female- Mitali Shah. When his following reached a considerable number, he changed the name to Yogi Devnath and later entered the arena of Hindu nationalism to spread hatred and propaganda.

He never gets tired of charting eulogies for the prominent hate and genocide mongers like Kalicharan Maharaj, Sadhvi Prachi, and terror accused Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, etcetera.

The hoax of love jihad and the propaganda that Muslims are conspiring with foreign powers to convert Hindus to Islam are among his favorite. Devnath’s cherished desire is to see India transform into a Hindu Rashtra ( Hindu nation).

He has no qualms in peddling disinformation and often resorts to disparaging terminologies for the Muslim community. Forensic Research and  Analytics Centre’s exclusive report titled “Yogi Devnath- A Man Who Runs a Hate Factory on Twitter” exposes his malicious and toxic mentality. He is a habitual liar and peddles fake news unabatedly. According to the report, “Devnath falsely accused Akhilesh Yadav that he had signed a mercy petition for Kasab. Moreover, he shared an edited image of a mosque and questioned the Maharashtra government when they will demolish this mosque. Similarly, Yogi Devnath tweeted a fake claim that this happened after 32 years and thanked PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Furthermore, he wrongly claimed that the grand alliance candidate from CPI-ML Aaftab Alam is one of the accused in the 2013 Patna bomb blast case.”

In his tweets, he constantly employs demeaning terminologies like Kejruddin referring to Arvind Kejriwal; Pappu Khan meant Rahul Gandhi mocking the leaders for their supposed soft stance towards Muslims.

He was among the Hindu right-wingers who ran boycott campaigns against Shahrukh Khan’s film Pathaan accusing the Bollywood movie of hurting Hindu religious sentiments. The film, however, broke all records at the box office.

He has hitherto been riding the bandwagon of anti-Muslim propaganda and hatred with complete impunity, which comes evidently from his contacts in the highest echelons of power in the Country. Narendra Modi sends him birthday wishes, and the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visits him during the latter’s visit to Gujarat.
